Red Queens and Increasing Returns

When I decided to watch Minority Report, I viewed it digitally on my computer using Amazon instant video. I chose this option because it was convenient and economical. The current competition between DVDs and video-on-demand is an example of Red Queen. According to Dr. Thornburg (2009), Red Queen is when two competing technologies share the same market. The DVD is running to stay in place with video-on-demand. I think DVDs rekindles/retrieves the VHS but will soon move to obsolete whereas the video-on-demand is enhancing the DVDs. Video-on-demand is more convenient because you can now download movies just about anywhere, i.e. your phone, tablet, and computer.

  1. Hello Charee,

I actually watched Total Recall and watched it by video-on-demand. I also feel that DVDs and video-on-demand are Red Queens. There is a competition between these two and one is not obsolete.

  3. Hi Charee,

I am not familiar with Amazon instant video. I will definitely checkout this technology. I totally agree that in the world we live in everything has to be convenient.

  4. Charee,
I have never tried Amazon instant video, so thanks for sharing this option of watching videos with me. I collect movies, and I had already purchased a copy of the movie Total Recall for our Science Fiction Assignment. It is a breath of fresh air to be able to access movies, videos, music, etc. by clicking a button within the comfort of your home. Shannon~
