Rhymes of History Technology

One technology that represents a rhyme of history is the digital camera. The digital camera rekindles the Polaroid camera by allowing you to see your pictures instantly instead of having to wait for the pictures to be developed. The digital camera retrieves the Polaroid camera from the past because you can instantly get a printed copy of the picture that was just taken. Not only can you instantly see your pictures, but now you are able to send and share your pictures with family and friends in a manner of seconds via the internet or you can print the pictures from your printer. In today’s society, we are so used to obtaining information right at our fingertips. Kevin Kelly (2007) discusses how far the internet has come. The internet gives us information right at our finger tips. No one imagined the magnitude and impact the internet would have on our everyday life.

  1. Charee,
I remember the Polaroid. My grandmother used them for the longest! Since she can't find the film anymore, she now uses a disposable camera. Many of my childhood memories are on Polaroid.

I also remember hearing the skeptics in the early stages of the internet. Like you said, many couldn't see the potential that it had at the time. Now, it's something that we cannot live without. Funny how times change!

  2. Hi Charee,

My first camera was a Polaroid One Step. I can remember taking a picture, instantly retrieving it, and waiting for it to dry before viewing it. I thought that was really cool at the time. The only downside was you only received 10 exposures at a time which ran out pretty quickly for a kid. Nevertheless, to this day I still have some pictures tucked away at my mother’s house that rekindles memories from my childhood. I had almost forgotten about the Polaroid thanks for bringing back some fond memories from the past. Great Post!

  3. Charee,
Reaching into the past - was the portrait painter the image maker of the past? Would you predict a future rhyme will be a pair of glasses and the picture frame will be our own hands?

  4. Hello Charee,

The digital camera has been a great tool for pictures. The ability to use our phones as a camera or video camera has also been great. I am a great fan of scrap booking. For a while it was difficult and then they created scrap books for digital pics. Love it!
